My research uses lake and fjord sediments to reconstruct high-latitude climate and environmental change and ultimately better understand the interactions between the atmosphere, cryosphere, and ocean. I am particularly interested in identifying the drivers of Holocene hydroclimate variability and in analyzing the response of glacierized environments to these changes in climate, with a specific focus on Patagonia. My research increasingly focuses on scientific questions of high societal relevance, such as the impact of global climate change on the severity of hydrological hazards, including Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), and their influence on the biogeochemistry of downstream environments. To do so, I investigate how modern earth surface processes are recorded in the physical and geochemical properties of sediments and I develop methods to generate high-resolution and well-calibrated sediment records of climate and environmental change.
