The ALTS team’s research focuses on weathering processes in continental environments in space and time, from the particle to the catchment scale. The team is interested in the compartments of the critical zone and is endeavouring to determine a time scale for continental weathering events. Research activities focus on understanding the carbon cycle in continental environments, particularly on the scale of large rivers, and the weathering and erosion processes controlling elemental fluxes. Studies also focus on anthropogenic, environmental and climatic forcings in the evolution of the natural environment and (bio-)geochemical cycles within sensitive continental ecosystems.
